It only takes about 20 minutes to make the homemade simple syrup, and you can make it ahead of time too.
Without preservatives, it will keep in the refrigerator for about a month.
You’ll find that the simple syrup recipe makes more than you need for a single drink, so I’d love to hear how you plan to use the rest of it.
You can always make more cocktails, but it’s also really good to pour the remainder over some vanilla ice cream for a sundae.

- 3/4 C. Sugar
- 1 ½ C. Water (divided 1 C., ½ C.)
- 1 C. Blackberries
- 2 Peaches, chopped
For the drink:
- 1 ½ oz Vodka
- 1/2 C.Water

Directions for making the homemade blackberry and peach simple syrup:
Put water, sugar, blackberries and peaches into a small pot
Cook on medium until it comes to a boil.
Lower heat to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
Set aside to cool.
Pour through a fine mesh sieve.
Press fruit against the side using a spoon.
This will get a lot a lot of flavor out.
How to make the cocktail
Now that you’ve made the homemade simple syrup, it’s time to make the drink!
Start out by putting ice in a cocktail shaker.
Pour in ¼ cup of the berry/peach simple syrup, and 1/2 cup water to make the base of the drink.
If you are making it alcoholic, also add 1 ½ oz vodka.
Shake and pour over ice in a new glass.
Put some pieces of fruit on a cocktail pick to make the garnish if you wish.
Otherwise, you could float the fruit pieces in the drink if you’d rather.
