Blood Orange Punch is a cocktail that’s a real treat to serve.
I get so happy when I see blood oranges show up in the grocery store.
You can pretty much always count on seeing one variety or another of blood oranges from December to May.
And that first glimpse of them always puts me in the mood to make some Blood Orange Punch!
Make some Blood Orange Rum Punch
Iām often amazed to find out that people have never tasted a blood orange.
On the outside, blood oranges look only nominally different from regular oranges, with rinds that are someone mottled with red here and there.
But when you cut one open, the orange itself is a gorgeous ruby-red color, and it is the perfect garnish for Blood Orange Punch!
This punch is out of this world.
Itās a tropical delight, which is particularly refreshing during the holidays when it is cold outside.
Serve Blood Orange Punch at Christmas dinner or holiday parties and watch people make a beeline to this gorgeous drink, which almost appears to glow with an inner light.
Kids will love Blood Orange Punch, too.
Simply leave out the Angostura Bitters and the Rum to make this a mocktail.
You can always add a bit of fizz with the addition of lemon-lime soda.
Just be sure to top each drink with a beautiful ruby-red slice of blood orange!
Blood Orange Punch
Blood oranges are in season from December through May depending on the variety.
So they are perfect to serve for the winter holidays all the way through to Memorial Day.
They are such a treat with their gorgeous color.
When blood oranges are in season, it’s time to make some delicious punch!
As striking as it is delicious, blood orange punch is sure to hit the spot!
Thanks to our friends at Ron Abuelo for sharing their recipe with us.
Ingredients you need to make Blood Orange Punch
(serves 2)
- 3 oz. Ron Abuelo AƱejo Rum
- 3 oz. Guava Juice
- 3 oz. Blood Orange Juice
- 3 oz. Pineapple Juice
- 1/2 oz. Grenadine
- 3 dashes Angostura Bitters
- Blood Orange wheels for garnish
Can I use regular orange juice if blood oranges aren’t in season?
Yes, you can.
There are a few substitution options for the blood orange juice.
While I love using a fresh squeezed juice for this recipe, if you don’t have access to fresh blood oranges, you can use your favorite orange juice instead.
Now, if you can get your hands on some cara cara oranges, that’s an absolutely delicious orange to substitute, but any of them will be okay.
Here’s another option– Sanpellegrino’s Aranciata Rossa.
It’s a sparkling blend of orange and blood orange juices.
That goes great in this recipe too.
So does Martinelli’s Sparkling Blood Orange Juice.
Make it a Mocktail instead
Some people don’t realize that bitters have alcohol in them.
So when you make Blood Orange Punch as a mocktail, you’ll need to leave out the bitters as well as the rum.
You can always add in a bit of lemon-lime soda if you’d like to give it some fizz.

We made these again recently and substituted some Blood Orange juice from Martinelli’s for the OJ. It was really good too. And it gave it a beautiful color.
