Cajun Appetizer: Spicy Shrimp Wonton Cups

It’s hard to imagine a bad way to serve shrimp, and this Cajun appetizer is definitely one of the best!

Layers of crispy, flaky, wonton wrappers hold a delicious combination of baby spinach leaves, sour cream, and baked, Cajun-seasoned shrimp.

Shrimp as an Appetizer: Perfect for Parties

If you’re planning a party (or even a small gathering), shrimp in wonton cups is a perfect appetizer.

Each one has only 106 calories, so they are particularly great for those wanting to make healthy choices.

They are easy to make, and their spicy flavor will wow your guests.

Make this shrimp wonton recipe for summertime gatherings, pool parties, and holidays like the 4th of July.

They’re even great to serve for Super Bowl parties or anytime you just want to kick back and watch the game with some good food.

Ingredients Needed for Cajun Shrimp Cups

Ingredients to make spicy shrimp wonton cups with the equipment to make them.

This recipe makes 12 individual shrimp wonton cups.

But if you make these for friends and family, you’ll definitely want to multiply the recipe.

A lot of people will want to eat more than one unless you are serving quite a few different appetizers.

  • Wonton wrappers – Egg roll wrappers cut into 4 work also
  • Olive oil spray
  • Cajun seasoning
  • 12 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 lime
  • Baby spinach leaves
  • 3 tablespoons light sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
  • Lemon zest, separated

How to Make It

Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

Using a mini muffin pan, press the wonton wrappers down into the cups.

Make sure they go to the bottom of the pan and then push back the corners.

Cook for 8 mins until browned. Cool on a wire rack.

Zest the lime and set aside.

Mix the Cajun seasoning, shrimp and lime zest in a small mixing bowl.

Once well coated, lay out on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until shrimp are cooked through.

In a small bowl, stir the sour cream, lime juice, and zest together.

Place 1-2 baby spinach leaves in each wonton cup.

Add a small dollop of the sour cream mixture in each cup and top with a single cooked shrimp.

That’s it! This Cajun appetizer is easy to make, looks impressive, and tastes delicious.

  • Place 1-2 baby spinach leaves in each wonton cup. Add a small dollop of the sour cream mixture in each cup and top with a single cooked shrimp.
