Holiday Shots aka Jolly “Holly-Day” Jello Shots

Holiday Holly-day jello shots recipe with Captain Morgan and Crown Royal

These holiday jello shots are so good, you wouldn’t know that they clock in at only 100 calories each!

When you use sugar free jello, these delicious little shots are perfect to serve when you’re counting your calories.

Holiday, or rather, “Holly-Day” Jello Shots are perfect to serve at your holiday parties.

Made with smooth whiskey and apple smash, they taste great. And only have 100 calories!

And while these yummy shots are made for Christmas, if you leave off the red hot candies, they work to serve as a great St. Patrick’s Day shot too!

Ingredients you need to make Holly-Day Jello Shots

  • 2 cups of boiling water
  • 1-6 oz. package of flavored green gelatin (Jell-o)
  • 3/4 cup of Captain Morgan Apple Smash liquor
  • 3/4 cup Crown Royal
  • Whipped cream, candy red hots, and mint for leaves.

Small plastic Jell-o cups with lids.

Make it a Mocktail instead

If you make these holiday shots without alcohol, you’re serving lime jello shots.

Depending on what gelatin you’re using, you may want to adjust the amount of water you need.

I suggest following the recipe on the package for the correct amounts.

Then follow the decorating instructions.

Alternatively, if you want to preserve the apple flavor from the Apple Smash, you can substitute apple martini mixer in the same amount as the recipe calls for.

I like the Simple Apple mixer from Stirrings and also use it in another holiday themed green apple martini.

If you are serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic jello shots, I suggest using two different flavors / colors so you know which one is which.

How to make Holly-Day Jello Shots

Heat 2 cups water until it boils, pour in bowl and mix in green jello until dissolved.

Add 3/4 cup Captain Morgan and Crown Royal.

Stir to combine.

Pour into shot cups.

Put in fridge to set overnight.

Garnish with whip cream, candy red hots, and mint for leaves.

Can I make the jello shots ahead of time?

These holiday jello shots are great to make ahead of time.

But it’s a good idea to wait until it’s time to serve them to add the whipped cream, Red Hots, and mint.

You don’t want the whipped cream to melt or for the color from the Red Hots to bleed into the whipped cream.

They go on really quickly.

So it’s the time of year when the liquor stores are going to start pushing “spiced” and fall-flavored liquors, especially spiced rum. So now’s the time to stock up on delicious spiced and flavored rums to make yummy shots and other drinks like this. You may even find them on sale!
