Serving a Plum Whiskey Smash

This colorful drink is dressed up for the party in shades of pink and yellow.

It looks right at home in any spring or summer gatherings, from parties to potlucks.

The festive colors look great on Valentine’s Day and this cocktail can even make a nice alternative at Mother’s Day brunch for those who aren’t a fan of mimosas.

This Plum Citrus Whiskey is so pretty and delicious, I bet you’ll be thinking up all kinds of great times to serve it!

Ingredients you need to make Plum Citrus Whiskey Smash

  • 2 plum wedges
  • 1/2 oz pure maple syrup
  • 2 oz whiskey
  • 2 oz Plum nectar juice
  • 1/2 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • Plum slices, lemon slices and mint for garnish

You will also need a cutting board, knife, cocktail shaker,  muddling stick, and beverage glasses.

Can I serve this drink without alcohol?

Yes, you may.

There are a couple of ways to do it.

There is such a thing as non-alcoholic whiskey.

So if you wish to preserve the whiskey flavor in the drink, that’s the way to go.

Otherwise, we can modify the recipe a bit so that it’s not so much a whiskey smash but more of a plum lemonade.

Omit the whiskey and add a couple of ounces of lemonade or lemon flavored club soda and you’ll have a delicious drink.

It will taste different from our recipe, but it will be delicious and ideal to serve for the kids or those who wish to enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

How to make a Plum Citrus Whiskey Smash

To make this delicious drink, you’ll begin by cutting a plum into wedges.

Then place the plum wedges and the maple syrup in a cocktail shaker.

Take your muddling stick and really mash the plum until it’s well macerated.

You really want to squeeze out as much of that delicious plum juice.

If the plum pulp is sticking to the sides of the cocktail shaker, take a spoon to separate it from the sides.

Then add the whiskey, plum nectar and some ice to the cocktail shaker.

Give it a good shake.

You want it to be well-mixed.

Fill your beverage glasses with ice.

Hold a strainer over the glass and pour the cocktail mixture through the strainer.

If you think there’s still some juice left in your plums, you may take a spoon to press the pulp against the strainer to release any last bits of fresh juice.

How to garnish a plum whiskey lemonade

Garnish the drink by adding a plum wedge, a slice of lemon, and a sprig of mint.

If you want to garnish the drink the way we did in the photos, take your plum and lemon slices and place them in the glass prior to adding the ice.

The ice will hold the lemon and plum slices in place so that they look pretty.

Then pour the drink, followed by adding the fresh fruit garnish on top.
