Oftentimes, it’s the simplest flavors that create a flavor explosion in your mouth, like when you serve prosecco with sweetened cranberries.

It’s one of the easiest things in the world to make, but my goodness, it packs a flavor punch!

Serve Prosecco with Sweetened Cranberries for Your Special Occasions

A bottle of prosecco with two glasses garnished with sugared cranberries on skewers.
Your mimosa bar isn’t complete without some sugared cranberries on skewers. For those who would rather enjoy their prosecco or champagne without the oj, adding a mouth-watering sweetened cranberry skewer is the perfect way to garnish the drink.

Sometimes all a delicious drink needs is a fabulous garnish to make it pop.

And the garnish looks as stunning as it tastes!

And while we certainly love serving prosecco all on its own, we really enjoy kicking it up a notch for the holidays and special occasions.

Check out how we like to serve sugared cranberries with prosecco, champagne, cava, or your other favorite sparkling wine!

The stars of the show are the sweetened cranberry skewers casually resting on top of the champagne flute.

They are easy to make ahead of time so that all you need to do is pour and garnish. It’s such an easy drink to serve when you’re entertaining.

Since the cranberry skewers can soak overnight, they are the perfect make ahead garnish to complement your prosecco.

Before serving, simply place the skewers on wax paper and put them in the freezer for 5 minutes to chill.

The cranberries really add to the prosecco’s flavor, but they don’t add very many calories.

The drink with the cranberries only has 137 calories.

Ingredients to make Prosecco with Sweetened Cranberries

Makes 2 drinks, but you can easily multiply the recipe if you’re serving a crowd.

  • 1 bottle of Prosecco, we used Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore DOCG
  • 8-10 frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 T water
  • Optional: Maple Syrup

Make the sweetened cranberries cocktail garnish

Pre-Steps:

Wash the fresh cranberries.
Pour the sugar on a small plate or bowl

Let’s get started! You won’t believe how easy this is.

Simply begin by putting the cranberries on your cocktail skewer or pick.

You’ll want to use about 3 or 4 cranberries for each one depending on the length of your pick and whether you are using a champagne flute or saucer.

It’s kind of like a cranberry shish kebab!

Roll out some wax paper on a baking sheet to get ready for the next bit.

Then did the skewer or pick in water and roll the cranberries in granulated sugar.

Place the cranberry skewers on the wax papered baking sheet, and place them in the freezer.

You want to let them freeze for about 5 minutes.

And then, they are ready to go! You have some gorgeous cranberry cocktail garnishes that go great with prosecco, champagne, cava, or other sparkling wine.

Can I make sugared cranberries ahead of time in a large batch?

You sure can! You can do it either the way I mentioned above, or you can use another method.

If using this method, just do it the day before and keep the skewers chilled. You can store them in a freezer container and then let them thaw in the refrigerator a few hours before serving.

If you’ve ever eaten sugared cranberries like candy, they also make an awesome cocktail garnish.

The method is a little different to what we outlined here, but it makes such a yummy option!

We’ve outlined those steps in our post, how to make a sugared cranberry cocktail garnish.

Make the Drink

This couldn’t be easier too! This recipe is so simple, but it’s absolutely an entertainer’s dream since it’s delicious, gorgeous, and simple!

And depending on the prosecco, champagne, or sparkling wine you choose, it’s not necessarily expensive either!

Let’s pour!

Fill your champagne flute about three-quarters of the way to the top.

Then balance the sugared cranberry skewer on top of the glass to serve.

It’s that easy!

Can I make the cranberries extra sweet?

If you have a sweet tooth and really want to enjoy that delicious sweet and sour cranberry taste, you can make the cranberries extra sweet.

To do so, soak the fresh or frozen berries in maple syrup overnight.

Then put the cranberries on a skewer and follow the steps above.

Notes

Please note that nutrition facts are subject to change based on your choice of ingredients. Please note that while the recipe calls for 1/2 cup of sugar, that's more than you will actually consume. More is needed to have room for the cranberries to pick up the sugar. Unless you really coat them, you're really only using about 1 tsp of sugar per drink or less.
