Ingredients you need to make the Sparkling Hibiscus Superiore
SERVINGS: 4
- 1 bottle Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore DOCG
- Whole hibiscus flowers, packed in syrup
- 8 tsps of hibiscus syrup used to pack the flowers
You will also need a teaspoon or bartender’s spoon, small tongs, and champagne flutes.
If you don’t have champagne flutes, be sure to use a glass that is tall to maximize your enjoyment of the drink’s beauty as well.
Note: If you don’t have prosecco, you may also substitute champagne, cava, or your other favorite sparkling wine.
Make it a Mocktail instead
Yes, you may easily serve this drink without alcohol.
To serve the Hibiscus Superiore as a mocktail, you may substitute sparkling white grape juice for the prosecco.
How to make the Hibiscus Superiore
This drink is absolutely stunning, and frankly, it may look difficult to make.
It really brings the drama and looks, frankly, a bit high maintenance.
But it isn’t.
It’s really quite simple.
You’ll begin with chilling your prosecco.
I like to keep my prosecco chilled at all times that it’s at home, but you’ll need to chill it for at least an hour prior to making the drink.
You may chill it either in the refrigerator or in a champagne bucket.
Gather your champagne flutes.
Using a small pair of tongs, carefully remove a whole hibiscus flower from the jar and place it in the bottom of a champagne flute.
To do this gently, I like to use a long thin set of tongs, or even a long pair of tweezers with only the most gentle amount of pressure.
It gives you more control than using a spoon, but a spoon will do.
Repeat this process for the number of drinks you’ll be preparing.
Pour the prosecco and fill the champagne flute to within about 3/4 inches from the glass’s rim.
Dip your spoon into the hibiscus flower jar and carefully spoon 2 teaspoons of hibiscus syrup.
Tip your champagne flute ever so slightly and carefully drizzle the hibiscus syrup down the side of the glass.
I like to start the drizzle below where the prosecco has filled so it doesn’t leave a streak on the flute.
You’ll repeat this step for the number of drinks you’re making.
The syrup will sink and create a gorgeous ombre effect. Serve and enjoy!
