Enjoy a Blackberry Whiskey Lemonade

This recipe is a great excuse to bring out that whiskey from your cupboard.

And it’s only 135 calories!

I don’t prescribe any brand of whiskey or bourbon for this recipe as everyone has their own personal preferences and tastes.

But it’s a good opportunity to also get adventurous and try different brands!

Two red cocktails garnished with blackberries on gold coasters on a marble table.
Whiskey and lemonade goes together perfectly, but when you add some fresh blackberries to the mix, it’s outstanding.

The vibrant color and bold flavor of this bourbon blackberry lemonade make it one of my favorite easy cocktails to make at home.

Tip: If you find yourself needing to stretch this recipe out to serve more people, top each drink off with a splash of club soda or sparkling wine.

This delicious cocktail, with fresh blackberries and simple ingredients, is perfect for picnics or an evening around the grill.

Grab that whiskey and give it a try!

It’s truly one of our favorite summer whiskey cocktails.

Is it good to mix lemon with whiskey?

Oh yes! Whiskey and lemonade are two great tastes that just belong together.

The tartness from the lemon flavor brightens the smoothness from the whiskey.

Add a little sweetness, and it’s just perfection.

This drink combines just the right amount of tart from the lemon lime Sparkling Ice with the sweetness from the blackberries and simple syrup to combine just perfectly with the whiskey.

Enjoy a refreshing blackberry lemonade spiked with whiskey. It’s the perfect drink to enjoy for some late summer porch sipping.

And of course, since this is such a gorgeous red drink, it’s a hit to serve for any patriotic holiday too!

If you make it with frozen blackberries, it’s also great to serve at Christmas time.

Adding a sprig of rosemary makes it really nice.

Aren’t these gold tone coasters gorgeous?

They are actually stainless steel and are anti skid. And they are so pretty!

Thank you to Sparkling Ice for sharing their recipe and photos with us.

Ingredients

  • Blackberries
  • Lemon juice
  • Simple Syrup
  • Whiskey or Bourbon
  • Sparkling Ice, Lemon Lime Flavor
  • Frozen berries
  • Sprig of Thyme

To make the drink, you will also need: cocktail shaker, muddling stick, fine mesh strainer, and a beverage glass.

Can I serve this drink without alcohol?

Yes, and it will make a delicious blackberry lemonade.

It’s also nice and low calorie too!

Simply omit the whiskey from the recipe.

When you add the liquid ingredients to the cocktail shaker, you’ll need a little bit of liquid to help mix the muddled blueberries with the simple syrup.

So I like to add an ounce of the Sparkling Ice to the shaker so there’s enough in there to shake.

You’ll want to shake it a bit more carefully since it’s carbonated.

You’ll disturb the bubbles in the shaker, but since you’ll be topping the drink with more of the Sparkling Ice, the drink will still be nice and effervescent.

Variations on the drink recipe

The great thing about this recipe is that you can use the base recipe (whiskey and lemonade) to make just about any kind of fruity, summer whiskey cocktail.

So yes, feel free to substitute other in season fruits with this recipe.

In particularly, if you substitute the blackberries for other berries, it’s especially tasty.

We really enjoy a whiskey strawberry lemonade too.

It’s makes such a refreshing summer whiskey cocktail.

We’re also partial to making it with blueberries too!

Making a bourbon blueberry lemonade is absolutely delicious.

Can I a pitcher of berry whiskey lemonade?

Oh yes, you absolutely can!

If you’re serving a group, make a yummy blackberry bourbon lemonade pitcher.

What you want to do is multiply the ingredients by how many servings you need.

Then mix up the drink with everything except for the Sparkling Ice.

Right before serving, add the Sparkling Ice Lemonade so that your drink will be nice and effervescent.

If you want to make the whiskey lemonade ahead of time, you can.

You can mix up all of the ingredients ahead of time (again – wait to add the sparkling lemonade) and chill it in the refrigerator.

Not only will you have a well-chilled drink, the fruit will have a bit of time to infuse too!

Can I serve a frozen whiskey lemonade with this recipe?

Yes, you can!

Add some ice to the blender, and then add your ingredients.

But what about the carbonation?

Well, that’s okay.

It won’t be a fizzy drink anymore because the blender will spin the carbonation out of the drink.

But instead, you’ll have a delicious frozen whiskey lemonade!

It’s a trade off of fizz for frozen, and it’s a really delicious option, especially on a hot day.

And of course, you can use non-carbonated lemonade for a blender drink too if you would rather not worry about the fizz.

The end result is kind of like a blackberry whiskey slush!

It’s one of our favorite frozen whiskey drinks.

How to make the whiskey lemonade:

We like to serve this drink with crushed ice.

It’s optional to crush the ice, but if you prefer it, begin by crushing your ice.

Add the blackberries to a cocktail shaker.

Using a muddling stick, muddle the berries to release their juice.

Add ice to the shaker along with lemon juice, the sprig of thyme, simple syrup, and whiskey.

Shake it thoroughly.

Since you have muddled fruit, you may wish to use a fine mesh strainer to strain the drink when you pour it if you don’t like to have pieces of fruit in the drink.

The strainer will also catch the sprig of thyme.

Fill your beverage glass with crushed ice and pour the drink mixture over the ice.

Top with the Sparkling Ice.

Add some frozen berries for garnish and enjoy!
