What’s not to love?
A Decadent Cherry Chocolate Martini
It’s that time of year again.
From Halloween until a little after Valentine’s Day, Chocolate Covered Cherries “lay in wait” for us in almost every store we visit.
Neatly stacked bright red boxes greet us flirtatiously at the door, and they surprise us randomly in the aisles.
And sometimes even have the nerve to show up near the checkout lanes, giving you one last chance to take them home with you.
But we all know how dangerous that can be – and how easy it is to eat a whole box of those things!
I say – grab that box of cherries and take them home, along with the rest of the ingredients for Chocolate Covered Cherry Martinis.
Then invite some friends over and share the deliciousness.
These martinis are truly tasty – a dessert you can drink.
And they are perfect for any occasion imaginable during “Chocolate Covered Cherry Season.”
Whip up a batch for holiday parties, Christmas dinner, or to share with your beloved on Valentine’s Day.
After all, treats always taste better when you share them with someone you love!

If fresh cherries aren’t available where you live for you to make your own cherry puree, you can use a commercially prepared cherry puree or cherry puree syrup.
In a pinch, you can even use (muddled) cherry pie filling.
Some options that we like are:
- Black Cherry Puree from Monin
- Black Cherry Puree Infused Syrup from Real
- Tart Cherry Harvest Fruit Puree from Home Brew Ohio Vintner’s

Ingredients you need to make Chocolate Covered Cherry Martinis
- 2 Tbsp Cherry Puree
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 4 oz Cream or Half n Half if you like something lighter
- 1 oz Vodka (either vanilla vodka or add ½ tsp vanilla extract)
- 1 oz White Creme de Cacao
- Chocolate Covered Cherries or fresh cherries, for garnish
- Cocoa Powder for rim, optional
Note: If you want your drink served pink, you will want to use white creme de cacao.
You can use a regular creme de cacao or other chocolate liqueur in the recipe, but their dark amber to brown colors may overpower the pink from the cherry puree, resulting in a less vibrant color.
It might even look a bit brown.
So be sure to use the clear if you really want the drink to be pink.
Make it a Mocktail instead
You can easily make this drink without the alcohol.
To enjoy a virgin chocolate covered cherry martini, omit the vodka and substitute 1/2 oz chocolate syrup for the creme de cacao.
The color may be a bit different, but it will still taste great.
How to make Chocolate Covered Cherry Martinis
If you would like to rim your glass with cocoa powder, you will want to do that prior to mixing the drink.
On a small plate, pour some cocoa powder.
Pour some water in a bowl that’s slightly larger than your martini glass.
Dip the upside-down glass in the water, and then immediately dip it the cocoa powder.
Then mix your drink.
Since cocoa powder can be a bit bitter, I recommend using some with a sweetener.
Muddle cherry puree, sugar and cream in the bottom of your mixing glass.
Add vodka and Chocolate liqueur and gently stir.
(If you are using plain vodka, be sure to also stir in ½ tsp of vanilla extract.)
Pour into a martini glass.
Garnish with chocolate covered cherries and a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
This drink is great to serve during the winter, at Christmas and New Year’s parties, and for Valentine’s Day.

This made a great dessert-style martini. Chocolate and cherries are amongst my favourite pairings, so I knew I’d enjoy this drink.
Cheers, this sounds delicious. I may have to have one coming up soon here.
Thank you! I hope you enjoy it!
