What is POG juice?
So what exactly is POG juice and what does it taste like?
POG stands for Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava juice.
So it’s a delicious tropical blend of juices that’s traditionally made in Hawaii.
In Hawaii, you can find it sold by the POG brand.
In other places, you find other juice makers selling it as a passion fruit, orange, and guava combo but without calling it POG.
Even Walmart has a POG blend made by their store brand.
And since Hawaii is known for its delightful tiki drinks, this drink fits right in.
Mix up some POG punch and have a great time.
And of course, passion fruit, guava, and orange flavors go really well with mango.
It’s a delicious combination.
What is mango nectar?
Mango nectar is different from mango juice.
It’s thicker and more concentrated and has more pulp in it.
You often need to water it down.
Since it’s a concentrate, you get a lot of flavor with just a little bit.
When mixing a drink with a nectar instead of a juice, less is more.
That’s perfect for making a drink lower in calories.
You get more flavor for the quantity you need to use.
Ingredients you need to make the mango punch:
- Light Rum
- Mango Nectar
- POG Juice
- Lemon Flavored Sparkling Water
- Orange Slices, for garnish
- Lemon Slices, for garnish
- Mint Sprig, for garnish
You will also need a large mixing glass or small pitcher, a measuring cup or jigger, a bar spoon, a cutting board, and a knife.
Note: If you don’t have mango nectar, you can substitute mango juice.
You will want to increase it by an ounce to start and then adjust according to your taste.
If you don’t have POG juice, you can make it yourself by combining equal parts passion fruit, orange, and guava juices if those are available.
If not, you may make the drink with orange juice. It will still be delicious.
Can I serve this tropical punch without alcohol?
Yes!
You absolutely can make this drink non-alcoholic.
What you want to do is leave out the rum.
It’s that easy.
If you need to make up a bit of volume, add more sparkling water.
If you leave out the rum, you’ll also trim each serving by about 80 calories.
How to make this mango POG rum punch
First measure the mango nectar, POG juice, and rum.
If you would like to chill your beverage glasses, do so by filling them with ice water and set them aside while mixing the drink.
In a large mixing glass or small pitcher, combine the liquid ingredients and stir.
Empty the chilled beverage glasses and fill them with fresh ice.
Add the lemon flavored sparkling water to the pitcher and gently stir.
You want to be very careful not to disturb the bubbles more than necessary.
Pour the drink over ice.
Garnish with slices of lemon and orange and sprig of fresh mint.
