A pile of them staring up from their tray at your Halloween party guests is sure to cause a stir.
And even if you just make them for a fun snack for your kids one night while they watch a “not so scary” Halloween movie, they will be a hit.
The best part of all is that even though they look a bit complicated, they really are pretty simple to make, especially if you have older kids who love to help in the kitchen.
Just remember, 15 donuts get eaten up fast.
So if you’re expecting a crowd, you might want to consider doubling, or even tripling, this fun Halloween recipe.
Otherwise, the monster eyes you see staring at you might be from your family and party guests after they’ve devoured all the yummy donuts!
Bloodshot Monster Eye Donuts are a tasty treat for Halloween!
There’s no tricks to making them. They are quite simple.
Candy Coated Bloodshot Monster Eye Donuts for Halloween
Time-Saving Tip: Since these donuts can go so quickly, I like to use a large donut pan.
The one I use makes 20 donuts, which is great for making them in bulk.
With this recipe, you can make all of your donuts in one go, and if you’re planning to double or triple the recipe, it makes things go a lot faster than if you’re using the ones that only make 6 donuts at a time.
Ingredients you need to make monster eye donuts
Makes 15 doughnuts
Doughnut ingredients:
- 1 C flour
- 1/3 C sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp unsalted sweet cream butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 C + 1 1/2 tbsp whole milk
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Vanilla doughnut icing ingredients:
- 4 C powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp clear corn syrup
- 1/2 C whole milk
- 1 tsp clear vanilla extract
- Red gel food coloring
- Black gel food coloring
- 2 disposable piping bags
Decorating ingredients:
- 1 bag of Orange candy melts
- 1 bag of Neon Green candy melts
Note: You won’t use all of the candy melts. Just one candy melt per donut.
How to make the donuts
Directions to make the donuts:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and spray a doughnut baking pan with Pam baking spray.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
In a small bowl, whisk together egg, milk, butter, and vanilla extract.
Combine the wet ingredients in with the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
Spoon batter into doughnut pan and bake for 10 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to cool for 6 minutes before removing and placing the doughnuts onto a wire rack.
Repeat steps until all batter is used.
Icing Directions:
Using a standing mixer, combine the powdered sugar, corn syrup, milk and vanilla extract and mix on medium to high-speed until smooth and thick.
Scoop about 1/4 C of the icing into 2 bowls.
Add a few drops of red to one bowl.
Add a few drops of black to the second bowl.
Scoop the two icings into their own piping bag.
Decorating directions:
Dip the doughnuts into the white icing and place onto a wire rack that way excess icing can drip onto the cookie sheet below.
Allow doughnuts to dry for 20 minutes.
Place a candy melt onto the center of the doughnuts.
Using the red piping bag and pipe the veins onto the doughnuts.
Using the black piping bag, pipe a pupil onto the center of the candy melt.
Allow doughnuts to continue to dry for another 30 minutes before enjoying!

- 1 bag neon green candy melts
