Enjoy a Peach and Cherry Pie Moonshine Smash
Moonshine has become more and more popular these days.
In fact, it’s readily accessible online and at various stores.
So more people are getting creative and experimenting with homemade moonshine cocktail variations, and for good reason!
This Cherry Pie Moonshine recipe might be the best of all of them, though.
The addition of peach slices and Rainier cherries turns the sweet and tart cherry flavor into the perfect cocktail mix.
Add a splash of cinnamon whiskey and vanilla, and it tastes like pie — in a glass!
And if you are new to making moonshine cocktails, you’ll be happy to know that my recipe is super easy to follow with straightforward ingredients.
Did somebody say moonshine cocktails?
My favorite non fruit-flavored moonshine at the moment is Climax Moonshine.
It’s made by a man who has continued the family business.
He has made quite a name for himself —
Even featuring as a known personality among moonshine enthusiasts on the Discovery show “Moonshiners”!
If you love the idea of making a great tasting moonshine cocktail from the comfort of your home, and I know you do….
Then I’d definitely recommend that you also pop over to my Basil Peach Moonshine (aka Basil Peach Lightnin’) recipe!
It’s another delicious moonshine cocktail for those of us who no longer stomach straight shots.

Do you drink moonshine cold or warm?
Whether you like your moonshine served as part of a mixed drink or if you take it straight up (with or without a chaser), it really tastes best served cold.
Like freezing cold.
In fact, I like to keep moonshine stored in the freezer.
If you’re new to moonshine, you may expect that it’s going to burn a bit going down.
But if it’s cold, the temperature really helps take the edge off of it.
It’s a lot smoother served very cold.
Why make this drink with Rainier cherries?
Frankly, I find Rainier cherries to be a treat.
Since they are available throughout the summer, they really just scream it’s summertime to me.
And since I have a peach tree in my backyard that’s ready to harvest at about the same time that the Rainiers are easy to find, it just works.
Not to mention that the cherries and peaches taste so good together.
So when are Rainier cherries in season?
I live in California, so I can get Rainier cherries just about all summer long.
We begin seeing them in stores and farmers markets sometime in May.
But cherry season in Washington state is a bit later in the summer, so truly, we can find them from about May until sometime in September.
Can I use another type of cherry in the recipe?
Sure! This drink is great made with Bing cherries too!
And it looks really pretty with them, particularly with the gorgeous dark red color that really shows up well with the peaches.
After all, we also enjoy drinks with our eyes.
More importantly, it tastes great with Bing cherries too!
Bings are nice and sweet, and that’s exactly what this recipe needs.
But if you have a sweet tooth, use Luxardo cherries.
This recipe already tastes like pie, hence the name, but if you want to level up that pie taste, Luxardos will get the job done.
And of course, since Luxardo cherries are available year round in jars, they are an excellent substitute.
When you have a craving for this drink and fresh cherries aren’t available, pick up some Luxardo cherries, and you’ve got a yummy drink!
What is a Luxardo cherry?
A Luxardo cherry is a real treat.
They put plain maraschino cherries to shame.
It’s a sour marasca cherry.
You find them in jars steeped in a sweet syrup.
They are really dark, almost black.
And they really pop in a recipe.
You won’t need as many Luxardo cherries if you’re making the swap.
In fact, there’s a delightful Luxardo liqueur that’s, guess what, called Luxardo Maraschino.
It’s a delicious liqueur that’s great to add a splash of to a drink anytime you want to add a touch of cherry flavor.
My rule of thumb is that if a recipe calls for grenadine, you can add a splash of Luxardo instead.
Ingredients:
- Peach slices
- Rainier Cherries, pitted and divided
- Moonshine, chilled – I used Climax moonshine
- Cinnamon Whiskey – I used Fireball, but the Ole Smoky cinnamon whiskey is really good in this drink too
- Vanilla Simple Syrup
To make the drink, you will also need: a cutting board and bar knife (if you’re using fresh peaches), a cherry pitter, a measuring cup or jigger, a muddling stick, a cocktail shaker, a strainer, and beverage glass.
Do you need both moonshine and cinnamon whiskey in this drink?
I’ve used both a moonshine and a cinnamon whiskey in this drink.
If you only have one of them, it’s okay to use one or the other.
They both taste good in this recipe on their own.
If you don’t have cinnamon whiskey, you will want to add a dash of cinnamon to the drink.
Can I modify the recipe if I don’t have Rainier Cherries or Fresh Peaches?
Sure!
If Rainier cherries aren’t in season, it’s okay to use your favorite cherry.
In fact, Bing cherries are absolutely delicious in this recipe.
You may use frozen (thawed) cherries.
You may also use Luxardo cherries.
And if it’s not peach season, go ahead and use either some frozen (thawed) peaches or canned.
In fact, the syrup from the can or jar can make a nice little mix in.
But if you want to really kick this drink up a notch, you can always make it using Ole Smoky’s Moonshine Peaches and their Moonshine Cherries.
Using the infused fruit adds a flavor profile that’s out of this world.
But it also increases the alcohol content, so you may want to reduce the amount of moonshine you pour if you’re adding the infused fruit.
Can I make this drink without alcohol?
Sort of.
By the time you omit the moonshine and whiskey, you’re left with simple syrup and fruit.
So you have to improvise a bit to make this recipe work without the alcohol.
But if your kids or someone wants one without the booze, you can make it work.
Replace the moonshine and whiskey with lemon-lime soda.
Then add in some grenadine, and the vanilla simple syrup.
The mocktail will be a bit like a Shirley Temple, but with peaches and cherries.
And that’s tasty!
Instructions:
First, begin by removing the pits from the cherries.
I like to use a cherry pitter, but you can also do it with a knife.
If you’re using fresh peaches, slice a peach and remove the skins.
In a mixing glass, add the peaches and cherries.
Then pour the moonshine over the fruit.
Using a muddling stick, smash the cherries and peaches in the moonshine.
This will release more of their flavor and also allow the fruit to begin to infuse a bit.
Fill your cocktail shaker halfway with ice.
Pour the cinnamon whiskey and vanilla syrup over the ice. Pour the peach, cherry, and moonshine mixture into the cocktail shaker.
Shake it thoroughly until all of the ingredients are well combined.
You’ll want to shake for at least 20 seconds or so.
Fill your beverage glass with ice and using a strainer, pour the mixture over ice.
Garnish with a peach slice and a whole Rainier cherry or two and enjoy!
