Enjoy a yummy Swamp Water Shot for Halloween
If you’ve ever had a Swamp Water cocktail, you know that it’s absolutely delicious.
Made with Green Chartreuse, pineapple juice and lime juice, it’s a really delightful drink.
So we thought, why not turn that into a jello shot?
So we’ve modified the recipe to work with lime jello, Chartreuse, and pineapple juice.
The Chartreuse still brings that spicy, herbal flavor that gives swamp water its name, and the lime and pineapple juice really bring the sweet and sour balance.
So our shot recipe is a simple variation on that.
If you prefer Yellow Chartreuse to Green, you may make the swap and it will still taste great.
You’ll end up with a slightly sweeter shot with a milder herbal flavor.
And of course, if herbal liqueurs aren’t your thing, whenever you’re mixing pineapple and lime together, you can’t go wrong adding a little coconut rum, or even Midori.
And of course, vodka or light rum work great too.
Swamp Water Jello Shot Ingredients
Making these cool swamp water shots is as easy as making traditional Jello shots with a few simple additions.
To make your own swamp water shots, you’ll need:
- Lime Jello
- Green Chartreuse
- Pineapple Juice
- Water
- Gummy worms, optional
- Whipped cream, optional
- Green Sanding Sugar. optional
To make the shots, you will also need, plastic shot glasses or small cups, a sauce pan, a measuring cup, a spoon, a whisk, and a baking sheet.
Can I use a liquor other than Green Chartreuse?
If you want to make these shots boozy but with something other than Green Chartreuse, you can substitute the Chartreuse for vodka, light rum or Malibu rum.
Each of these will preserve the delicious taste of a lime and pineapple swamp water cocktail turned into a Jello shot.
If you would like to reduce the calories, you may substitute regular Lime gelatin for sugar-free lime gelatin.
Also, if you aren’t serving these shots for Halloween, you don’t have to include the whipped cream, sanding sugar, or gummy worms.
The shots are delicious without the fun garnishes as well.
Can I make these shots without alcohol?
Yes!
The simplest thing to do to make these shots without the vodka is to make the jello according to the box instructions.
Then you can decorate the shots with the whipped cream, sanding sugar and gummy worms.
If you are making a batch with alcohol and another batch without, you can use a different color of sanding sugar on the whipped cream to know which one is which.
How to Make Jello Shots
To turn your plain Jello shots into swap water shots, you’ll need to start by making the shots.
Then, you’ll decorate them with some whipped cream and creepy, gummy snakes!
But before you can add those fun decorations, you have to make your Jello shots.
Start by bringing your water to a boil.
Check the Jello package for the correct measurements – typically you’ll need two cups of boiling water for a six ounce package of Jello.
When your water begins to boil, remove it from the heat and add the lime gelatin.
Whisk the green Jello into the hot water until the gelatin is completely dissolved.
Then, add your cold water and Green Chartreuse and pineapple juice.
For these Jello shots, use one cup cold water and one half cup green chartreuse and one half cup pineapple juice.
Whisk the cold liquid into the hot Jello mixture until it’s well combined.
Pour the green gelatin into your shot glasses.
Place one gummy worm inside each of the Jello shots to give them a creepy look.
To make these Halloween Jello shots a little easier to transfer to the fridge, try lining up your shot glasses on a baking sheet before you fill them.
When all the cups are full, you can then move the baking sheet to the refrigerator to give your Jello time to set.
Allow your Jello to chill for around two hours, until the gelatin is completely set, then you can add your swamp water decorations!
How to decorate swamp water jello shots for Halloween
Start by topping each shot with a small amount of whipped cream.
Sprinkle the green sanding sugar over the top of the whipped cream to give it the look of toxic water.
Finish by adding a gummy worm or two to the top of the swamp water shot for added shock (read – fun) factor.
You can serve your swamp water Jello shots immediately after decorating them or place the shots in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve them.
