This Raven Martini is certain to turn heads.
Not only is the black coloring perfect for Halloween fun but the name is quite catchy as well.
One sip of this black vodka martini drink and you’ll be certain to be in the Halloween spirit for sure!
This simple martini recipe has only three ingredients that are required with two that are optional.
That means that you can whip up this martini in literally no time at all.
Enjoy a fun Raven Martini!
I highly recommend pairing it up with the black salt because what other time during the year will you be able to have an all black drink with all black salt?
Take advantage of the uniqueness of this slow slipper!
Don’t let the dark color fool you.
This martini drink recipe is quite refreshing and light and certain to add a fun twist to your Halloween night.
All you have to do to take this drink recipe over the top is to pair it up with your best Halloween costume as well!
Even though this martini recipe is perfect for Halloween, don’t hesitate to make it all year long.
It’s just that much fun to drink.
The Raven Martini is great for fans too!
The great thing about this cocktail is that it’s perfect not only to serve for Halloween, it’s also great for fans to serve for theme nights and parties.
For instance, if you’re a big fan of the poet Edgar Allen Poe, you no doubt know his poem, “The Raven.”
Poe fans love how this drink goes along with the intense nature of the poem.
And if you love Game of Thrones, aka The Songs of Ice and Fire, you’ll be familiar with the ravens being used like carrier pigeons.
And of course, you’ll know all about the Three Eyed Raven too!
So if you’re watching GOT again, or waiting for GRRM to finally release the final book in the series, this is a great drink to enjoy.
In fact, we have a fun roundup of Game of Thrones cocktails you may enjoy — and a great companion drink to serve alongside this one too!
It’s called The Mother of Dragon Fruit!
Ha! See what I did there?
Does black vodka stain?
Your clothing? Yes.
If you spill it on your clothes, it’s going to be noticeable.
Honestly, when I make this drink, I make sure I’m wearing black when I serve it.
And if I’m serving it as part of a theme, that usually works out really well!
Does it stain your teeth? No.
It’s just a coloring of the drink but won’t have any lasting effects on the look of your mouth.
There’s a slight chance that it might get into the cracks of your lips in they are dry or chapped, but that’s a big “if”.
So put on some chapstick and enjoy!
Make certain you pair this martini drink up with a really cool and spooky glass!
Ingredients to make a Raven Martini
- Black Vodka
- Chambord, or other raspberry liqueur
- Blue Curacao
- Black sanding sugar, optional
- Lime wedge, optional
- Luxardo cherry, optional
To make the drink, you will need: a small plate for the sanding sugar, a cutting board and knife for the lime, a martini glass, and a cocktail shaker.
Note: You may use black vodka if you have it and want to get a really deep shade of black.
Otherwise, using Chambord and Blue Curacao will give you a really deep purple, almost black result.
Depending on your taste and color preferences, you may be happy with using 1 oz of Blue Curacao.
If you want a more intense orange flavor or deeper color, add another ounce after you have mixed the drink.
Will using black vodka alone make the drink really black? No.
The black vodka will be black, but it won’t be opaque.
You’ll need to add the Chambord and Blue Curacao to deepen the color.
And raspberry and orange taste great together too!
Can I serve the drink without alcohol?
Yes, but I honestly don’t have a great substitute for the black vodka, so the substitutes will result in a really different drink.
The mocktail is basically an on-theme non-alcoholic drink rather than a re-creation of this drink.
So basically, if you’re looking to serve a Raven themed mocktail, what we’re going for is basically, a drink that tastes good and is also black.
Or go for a drink that is so dark purple that it looks black in some light.
So you have a few options.
You can go the grape juice route, in fact if you look at our Black Magic recipe, it’s made with grape juice.
You may notice that in the light, the ice makes it look purple, but if you look where there’s no ice, it looks almost black.
If you don’t want to use regular ice, you can make ice from grape juice to keep it nice and dark.
Another way to do it is to use grape flavored Kool-Aid and make ice cubes out of the Kool-Aid.
That will work the same way as the grape juice method.
And a third way to do it is to use a Black Raspberry sparkling water.
For instance, in our drink, Another Glorious Morning, we used a flavored sparkling water, and that makes for a tasty drink that’s really easy and low-maintenance.
I recommend serving it chilled.
And of course, you can still add the sugar to the glass if you want it to be nice and fun.
If you’re serving Raven themed drinks in both with and without alcohol, I like to use one color sugar rim for the boozy version, and a different color for the mocktail.
How to make a raven martini
Part of the fun of this drink is in its presentation.
I like to add some black sugar to the glass.
It’s entirely optional, but it does give the drink a little something special.
So if you decide to sugar the glass, you want to do that first.
Start by pouting some sanding sugar on a small plate.
Then cut a lime into wedges and run a lime wedge around the edge of the glass to moisten it.
Turn the martini glass upside-down and dip it in the sanding sugar.
Set the glass aside while making the drink.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
You’ll want it to be about halfway full of ice.
Measure the black vodka, Chambord, and Blue Curacao and pour them into the cocktail shaker.
Give it a good shake.
About 15 seconds ought to do it.
Pour into the sugared martini glass and enjoy!
If you want to add a garnish, I like to add a Luxardo cherry or two on a cocktail pick.
Their flavor works well with the drink, and they are really nice and dark, so the Luxardos are on theme too!
