What a great Thanksgiving Punch

Everyone loves a good punch.

Not only does it make a big recipe to share, but you get the chance to serve up yourself and your friends in cute little punch cups, too.

Totally festive, right?

With it’s delicious fall flavors, it’s perfect to serve anytime you’d like.

But this is one of our favorite Thanksgiving recipes.

It tastes great and is easy to make ahead of time and multiply the recipe.

The flavors go really well with most traditional Thanksgiving dishes.

And it’s also delicious served warm like a hot toddy after the meal.

Since punch is meant to be served at celebrations and get-togethers, what other reason do you need to share this punch recipe with some of your closest friends?

It’s such a fun drink to share!

This whiskey punch may be your new favorite fall drink!

Can you make punch ahead of time?

You bet!

Meal prepping (or drink prepping!) is totally a thing and this simple punch recipe can be made up in advance.

That way, when you’re ready to serve and enjoy, you already have it nice and cold and ready to go!

Just refrain from adding in a ton of ice or it might water it down!

You can always add in the ice to the glasses individually to overcome that issue or worry.

Ingredients to make Apple Ginger Whiskey Punch

  • Apple Cider – you may use plain apple cider or spiced apple cider based on your preference – both are delicious options
  • Apple Whiskey – we like using Crown Royal Regal Apple, Jack Daniels Tennessee Apple, or Jim Beam Apple Whiskey
  • Sparkling Water
  • Ground Ginger
  • Orange, sliced thin
  • Apple, sliced thin
  • Cinnamon sticks

A pitcher of apple cider punch next to a glass of the drink and some cinnamon sticks.
You’ll need a large pitcher or punch bowl to make the cocktail.

To make the drink, you’ll need: a large pitcher, a punch bowl (optional), measuring cup or jigger, cutting board and knife, bar spoon, and beverage glasses.

If you are grating fresh ginger, you’ll need a ginger grater or other small grater.

If you are serving in a punch bowl, you may wish to use a mold to make an ice ring.

Alternatively, if whiskey isn’t your liquor of choice, this drink is also delicious using spiced rum like Captain Morgan’s, or even an apple vodka.

Can I make this drink as a mocktail?

Sure! And it makes a delicious fall punch without the whiskey.

You’ll simply omit the whiskey and otherwise follow the instructions to make the punch.

This punch is so good that both those drinking and those not drinking will want to take a sip.

We like to make a batch with and without the booze so every one can enjoy it.

An easy way to keep them separated is to serve one in a punch bowl and serve the other by the pitcher.

Or if you’re using beverage dispensers, you can mark which one has alcohol and which one is the non-alcoholic version.

If you are making an ice ring, I recommend doubling the recipe for the ice ring.

Don’t include the whiskey in the ice ring mixture so that it will set up well.

How to Make Ginger Apple Punch with Whiskey with an ice ring

Whether I’m serving the drink right away or later in a punch bowl, I like to start by mixing the apple cider, ground ginger, along with the orange and apple slices in a large pitcher.

If I’m making an ice ring for the punch bowl, I set the ice ring mold on a small tray.

Then pour the mixture into the mold. The tray makes it easy to carry a liquid filled mold.

Place the mold on the tray into the freezer for it to set up.

You will need at least 2 hours for it to freeze, preferably longer.

Then add the whiskey to the pitcher and stir to combine.

To serve in a punch bowl, add the ice ring to the punch bowl.

Then pour the mixture over the ice ring.

Add the apple and orange slices to the mixture along with the cinnamon sticks.

To serve in punch glasses, fill the glasses with ice cubes and pour over ice.

You may garnish the drink with an apple slice, orange slice, and a cinnamon stick, if you’d like.

A cinnamon stick floats in a glass of punch.
Because this punch includes sliced apples and oranges, it’s almost like an apple cider whiskey sangria. It doesn’t have wine in the recipe, but if you want to add some, we’d love to hear how you like it!

Can I serve the apple ginger punch warm?

Yes! And it makes a delicious hot toddy!

To serve it warm, combine all of your ingredients in large sauce pan or dutch oven – except for the whiskey.

When it’s time to serve, add a shot of whiskey to each mug and top with the warm punch mixture.

You may also warm the drink in a slow cooker too.

This is especially helpful if you wish to make the drink before an event.

Just wait to add the whiskey to the mug when you serve it as above.

This makes it really easy to serve the punch for those wishing to enjoy the whiskey and those who do not since you only spike the punch for those choosing to imbibe.

If you’ve served the drink cold, and there’s some left over after your event, be sure to heat some up for a yummy hot toddy.

If the whiskey has already been mixed in, don’t let it come to a boil, just let it warm up a little bit.
