Ingredients
You may be familiar with brandy slush recipes made with tea.
This particular recipe substitutes tea for sparkling water.
It’s a great variation.
But of course, if you like it with tea, you can do that too!
- Ice
- Apple Brandy
- Apple Martini Mix – we used Stirrings, but any green apple martini mix will do
- Gloe Sparkling Water – Aloe Vera with Fuji Apple and Pear flavor
- Sprig of Mint
To make the drink, you will also need a blender, a measuring cup or jigger, a mixing glass, a bar spoon, and a beverage glass.
Can I use sour apple liqueur instead of green apple martini mix?
You sure can!
You may substitute a sour apple liqueur for the apple martini mix.
You will have a higher proof drink, and depending on which liqueur you choose, the drink could be a bit sweeter.
For example, Sour Apple Pucker from DeKuyper is pretty sweet.
Less is more.
Afterall, this drink is made with brandy, and brandy is already a touch sweeter than whiskey.
It’s got a bit more of a fruit flavor to it.
You know how whiskey is made with fermented grain?
Well, brandy is made with fermented fruit.
So if you prefer a drink that’s less sweet, you can always use whiskey instead of brandy too!
Can I use another liquor instead of brandy?
Why not!
You know what you like and what you have in your liquor cabinet.
There’s no reason you can’t substitute rum for the brandy to make a frozen green apple daiquiri.
Or you can substitute vodka and make a frozen apple martini.
Or you can use an apple flavored whisky like the one from Crown Royal to make a yummy frozen apple whisky slush.
If you try one of the variations, let us know in the comments what you did and how you liked it!
Can I substitute the Gloe Sparkling Water?
If you can’t find Gloe’s sparkling water, there are some great alternatives.
We really like Martinelli’s Sparkling Apple Pear Juice.
You can also find apple and pear sparkling water made by Hint, Smartwater, and Revive too!
There are also some store brands that work great in this recipe too, like the Apple Pear Sparkling Water from Safeway.
These don’t have the aloe vera flavor in them which is what differentiates the one made by Gloe.
However, they make a great substitute.
If you really want to add a touch of aloe vera, you can always add a small amount of aloe vera juice to the drink if you’d like.
I’d try half a teaspoon and work my way up to see how I like it.
You can always add more if it’s not enough.
Can I serve this drink without alcohol?
Sure!
In fact, serving this drink without the alcohol tastes a lot like the Green Apple Slush at Sonic.
You’ll need to omit the apple brandy.
To maintain the flavor from the brandy, I like to substitute apple juice or apple cider for the apple brandy.
Directions
Begin by crushing your ice in a blender.
Measure your liquid ingredients and pour them into a mixing glass.
You want to stir them very gently so as not to disturb too much of the carbonation from the Aloe Gloe.
Put the ice in your beverage glass, and pour the drink mixture over the ice.
Add a sprig of mint for garnish and serve!
You want to serve it right away so that the ice doesn’t have time to melt.
